Reflecting on 21 Centuries of Faith

Veneration of the Saints

This evening, St. Mary of Sorrows celebrated the Solemnity of All Saints. This beautiful holy day reminds us that the saints overcame the flesh, world and the devil, and, through baptism, we have been sanctified for the same end:

And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.
 – Revelation 12:11
An amazing opportunity took place. A parishoner brought the relics that had been entrusted to them. The pastor then placed them before the statue of our Lady.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, our pastor offered the relics of the removed the reliquary of the Holy Apostles (would be in the center of the circle above) for veneration. Prior to the beginning of the liturgy, we thought that only a few would approach for a blessing and veneration. Much to our suprise, and a pleasant one at that, well over a hundred parishoners approached and received a blessing.
This goes to show that even in the midst of rampant Modernism the faithful crave the connection with the blessed. May this time-honored tradition of veneration continue and connect us with our family that have gone before us.
