Reflecting on 21 Centuries of Faith

Lent, It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Happy Ash Wednesday! Today is a call to arms. The soldiers of antiquity branded themselves to show who they belonged to and their choice weapon of war. Even today, every branch of our military – down to the division level all have their insignias that incorporate their “choice” of weapons.

What is the Christians choice? The cross. How do we deliver it? Repentance. Who are we at war with?  The flesh, the world and the devil.

Today begins our march through the wilderness toward Good Friday. There are numerous dangers and pitfalls along our mapped path. During Lent we will pass through the gauntlet. Every area in our lives that we are offering to the Lord will be fired, forged and tested to ensure that we have been purified in the crucible of His love. The end result is holiness. This will enable us to stand in the presence of the Living God affirming what Scripture proclaims:

God is an All-Consuming Fire. (Hebrews 12:29)

Lent provides the additional grace to help us endure the fires and be formed into the men and women of God that we have been designed to be. Lent is about war. We need to keep that in mind. Fight the good fight, keep the goal in mind and embrace the pain.

Lent, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! Feel the burn…
